Dr. Jaime Bendeck

Msc. MPH

Family Physician & Emergency Doctor

Hello, I’m Dr. Jaime Bendeck, and I am a physician at the Central Clinic. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in over 20 countries. This experience has profoundly shaped my approach to medicine, particularly in how I prioritise patient care.

While MSF is renowned for its response to emergencies and disaster situations, it is also a significant contributor to public health. This means that the organisation not only addresses immediate medical needs but also focuses on preventive care. This philosophy of prevention lies at the heart of my practice.

In my clinic, I place great emphasis on “Well Woman” and “Well Man” check-ups. My aim is to see you when you're feeling healthy, rather than waiting until you’re unwell. Why? Because I believe in the power of prevention. By detecting potential health issues early, we can manage risks before they develop into more serious conditions. These check-ups allow us to identify warning signs for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary artery disease, stroke, and kidney disease—often years before symptoms appear.

Many chronic diseases are "silent" in their early stages, and by the time symptoms manifest, managing them often requires long-term medication. However, with regular check-ups, we can prevent these conditions from ever becoming a problem.

The Wellness Exam is simple and non-invasive. It involves a blood test and an electrocardiogram (ECG). After these tests, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to review the results together. I’ll walk you through each of the findings, using clear, visual illustrations of the body to explain what’s happening inside. This approach is both educational and enlightening.

The practice of preventive care has deep historical roots. In ancient China, doctors were paid only when their patients were healthy. If a patient fell ill, the doctor was obliged to treat them free of charge, as it was seen as the doctor’s failure to maintain the patient’s health. This idea of "prevention is better than cure" remains a guiding principle in my work.

At the Wellness Clinic, my goal is to keep you living well—today, tomorrow, and for many years to come.
