LicAc BSc (Hons) OMBAcC

Acupuncture & Mindfulness

Lori Hillman trained at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, where she received her licentiate in 1999. She holds a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, with postgraduate training in Five Element Acupuncture and Food Energetics. Additionally, she has completed the first stage of obtaining her Permaculture Design Certificate.

Her experience includes training with Penny Brohn Cancer Care, where she supported individuals living with cancer through acupuncture, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness meditation. Lori also conducted a seven-year study on acupuncture and mindfulness for people living with Parkinson’s Disease, which demonstrated a positive impact on daily living and deepened her understanding of disease aetiology.

Lori specializes in treating a wide range of conditions, including acute and chronic pain, post-stroke, TMJ, inflammation, migraines, musculo-skeletal pain, arthritis, and fibromyalgia. She also has extensive experience in managing anxiety, stress, trauma, insomnia, vertigo, dizziness, and neuropathy. Her expertise extends to digestive, respiratory, and cardiovascular issues, including asthma, allergies, sinusitis, and various menstrual disorders such as pain, irregular periods, and fertility issues. Lori is also dedicated to supporting women through menopause and providing comprehensive pregnancy care and management.

Lori has been teaching mindfulness meditation since 1974. Since 2005, she has also taught the dynamics of the Five Elements, and in 2010, she began incorporating Food Energetics into her courses and workshops. Her goal is to help people understand their own unique patterns of physiological and emotional health. Viewing health through the lens of the Five Elements has led her to appreciate the interconnectedness of health and nature. She believes that this ancient wisdom can play a crucial role in healing by equipping people with the resilience needed to face the challenges of today.

In January 2017, Lori was invited by an award-winning green chef and the UK Ambassador to the United Nations' Chef’s Manifesto, to contribute to the World Food Programme's sustainable dinners event for the Healthy Not Hungry campaign. She provided the medicinal energetics for each ingredient in the evening's menu, ensuring the overall synergy of the courses. This collaboration with renowned chefs, medical herbalists, and nutritionists allowed them to demonstrate the importance of food as medicine to UN officials.

Lori's journey in natural medicine, mindfulness meditation, and conscious ecology began at Sherborne House in Gloucestershire, where she studied in 1973-74 at the International Academy for Continuous Education under J.G. Bennett. Bennett, a pioneering educationalist, is regarded as one of the founding fathers of the holistic movement, advocating for what he termed "Reciprocal Maintenance," which emphasizes biodiversity and the higher intelligence of nature, our planet, and the solar system. This study also included an early focus on climate change.

At Sherborne, Lori learned the practice of mindfulness meditation from Samdach Vira Dharmawara Bellong Mahathera, a Cambodian monk and doctor of the Thai Forest tradition. A remarkable individual, he helped many escape Cambodia during the Pol Pot regime, ultimately relocating them to England and California, where he continued to guide them until his passing at the age of 112.

Currently, Lori runs courses in Gibraltar, Spain, and England, where she teaches Five Elements, Food Energetics, and Mindfulness Meditation.
